The Ultimate Guide to Elevating Your Career: 3 Strategies for Growth

Try these 3 easy ways to improve your career in 2022

It’s January and that means it’s the time of year when most of us are getting very serious about setting goals and making resolutions.

Usually, we focus on improving our lives by starting new routines, ending bad habits or completing outstanding projects and ideas.

Very often we review areas in our lives like our health, finances, careers and relationships to guide our undertakings.

So, if you’re thinking about ways to improve your career this year… I got you, Sis, I wrote this post just for you, so keep reading

I’m sharing 3 easy, affordable and effective ways you can make positive changes in your career – not by the end of the year but by the end of the very first month of 2022.

1. Spruce up your Resume and Create a Bio

Most times we wouldn’t review our CV’s unless we are actively job hunting.  However, job recruiters suggest that resumes should be updated every 6 months.

Reviewing resumes are important for 2 main reasons.

  1. It can help us to spot gaps in our skills and qualifications and highlight areas for growth and development
  2. It can remind us of latent strengths, qualifications ect that could be used to enrich our present and future roles.

Even if you are not job hunting, try sprucing up your resume in January.

Also, try creating a bio with a headshot. Use this on your social media profiles like LinkedIn to increase your visibility and marketability

LinkedIn is a powerful resource for improving your career.   There are countless opportunities to network with professionals within your industry and you can take advantage of learning from their free courses.

If you haven’t already, be sure to get signed up on this site soon.

2. Join an Accountability Group

The New Year can sometimes unearth feelings of discontent. Reflecting on the past year, we may feel stuck and overwhelmed realising there were things we did not accomplish or that we did not experience any major growth in some areas of our lives.

You may have attempted to make changes, maybe you started a few courses, sent out a few applications or started working on a business idea that you loved – then life happened and those things got sidelined.

Breath hun, this has happened to all of us.

I’m going to let you in on a secret…. the missing ingredient for your success is accountability

Yes, it’s simple and powerful. See as humans we are wired for connection and although we can accomplish a lot alone, it’s far more satisfying succeeding together.

Achieving goals can be a lonely enterprise but it gets much easier with the right support and resources.

A great way to access this support is by getting an accountability partner.

Working with an accountability coach or joining an accountability group provides you with encouragement and empowerment to stay on track, perform consistently and develop the discipline to push through and accomplish your fascinating goals. If you are interested in a fun and informative group, join my free Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/363465264383307

Or join the waiting list for my ‘fiver’ tribe accountability group here

This is a group of ambitious women who understand the value of committing to their dreams and supporting others to do the same.

We ask tough questions, we give straight, compassionate answers and we hold space and keep each other to keep doing the most.

Trust me you can make 2022 the year that you finally achieve those career goals, all you need is a little help staying accountable.

3. Finish a FREE personal development course

Personal development is the gift that keeps on giving.  If you want to improve your career and your life, keep learning.  There are several free courses available online that can help you with areas in your personal and professional life like time management, professional growth and much more.

My 3 favourite places for learning for FREE are: Coursera, Thinkfic and LinkedIn Learning

These sites even offer certificate courses that help you to upgrade your skills and that resume we were talking about earlier.

I must add though, Courses are not the only way to pursue personal development.  You improve your expertise by reading books, listening to podcasts, TedTalks or by checking out the university of YouTube for content that interest you.

If being pressed for time is a  deterrent to learning, try listening to an audiobook when you are driving to work, washing dishes or just relaxing at home.
