Finish it: Why Millennials Should See Things Through

In today’s fast-paced world filled with distractions, it can be challenging to follow through and complete what we set out to do.
However, I firmly believe that persevering and seeing things through to the end is a powerful expression of self-care and confidence in our potential.
In this week’s blog post, we explore why it is so important to finish what we start when building a fascinating life.  We will also review practical ways to integrate this mindset into everyday life.
  1. Builds Confidence and Self-Esteem

Completing tasks boosts our confidence and self-esteem. Each finished project is a testament to our abilities and dedication.

This helps us to build trust in ourselves, reinforcing the belief that we can achieve our goals. It also builds our reputation with others. We are social creatures, and knowing that people like and respect us is important in our quest for happiness and satisfaction. When we promise to assist others and follow through, it boosts our confidence and self-esteem.

  1. Enhances Productivity

Completing tasks frees up mental space and energy, allowing us to focus on new challenges. This cycle of completion and renewal enhances overall productivity. Have you ever experienced the relief of completing a long-delayed task in less than 15 minutes? It’s a great feeling – no more cringing when you think about it and more time to devote to other activities.

  1. Develops Discipline

My favourite advantage of completing what we begin is that it builds discipline and perseverance. These qualities are valuable for personal and professional development, helping us to remain committed to our tasks even when faced with interruptions, distractions, or delays.

Now that we understand the benefits of following through let’s explore some strategies to help us finish what we start.

Prioritize Your Tasks

There’s a difference between urgent and important. Learn it well. Not all tasks are created equal. Identify the most important tasks and focus on them first. Use tools like to-do lists or digital planners to keep track of your priorities and ensure that you are working on what truly matters.

Avoid Comparison

Comparison steals joy and is a subtle daily distraction. We often waste time comparing our lives with others, especially in the age of social media. It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing our progress with others, but we are all on our unique journey. Our ultimate goal is to achieve excellence in health, wealth, relationships, and careers.

Excellence looks different for everyone. What’s important is that we always do our best. Let’s celebrate that.

One final tip for learning how to make completion a habit is to take a moment to savour the feeling of completing a task. Whether it’s a small daily chore like having a clean kitchen at the end of the day or a significant project you have been working on for months, acknowledging our accomplishments can motivate us to keep going and tackle the next challenge with enthusiasm.
